EXPERIENCE:

  • Started career with National Insurance Company (NIC) as an Assistant Administrative Officer in 1985 in the HO in Kolkata. Over the years I have had the opportunity to work in different departments of NIC at HO in Kolkata, Calcutta Regional Office, at Ahmedabad Regional Office and General Manager’s Office, Mumbai. I have also had the opportunity to deliver lectures on different topics in the area of Non-Life Insurance at different fora including; National Centre for Insurance Learning, Kolkata, Regional Training Institute, Ahmedabad; Regional Training Institute of Bank  of Baroda, UCO Bank, Bank of India; Indian Chemical & Manufacturers’ Association; Bengal Chamber of Commerce; Annual Convention of Indian Insurance Institute at Hyderabad and Lucknow, IIM Calcutta; Loss Prevention Association of India etc.

 

  • Selected as a member committee for interviewing candidate appearing for the post of Administrative Officer (Generalist), on behalf of all the four public sector insurance companies) in 2014. As a member of the Committee for promotion of officers of National Insurance Company from scale I to Scale II in 2017, interviewed around 550 officers. Was also instrumental in preparing course material for in-house executive programmes & conferences.

 

  • Joined in December 2020 as Faculty member in the Non-Life area at National Insurance Academy, Pune (NIA), after superannuating from National Insurance Company (NIC). Prior to the current assignment, I was posted as faculty at NIA, on deputation from National Insurance Company. At NIC, I was posted as Deputy General Manager, in General Manager’s Office at Responsibilities were primarily in the areas of Bancassurance, Claims Management, CRM, Personnel.

 

  • Prior to my tenure at GMO, Mumbai I was posted as Chief Manager in the R&D Department in Head Office. Was instrumental in developing several new retail products (conceptualization to launch) and also modification of many existing products.

 

  • Posted in the Business Process Reengineering Department at H.O to drive the software requirement specification for Miscellaneous insurance products.

 

  • Worked as Manager in different departments of Ahmedabad Regional Office - Claims Management, Regional Underwriter for Non-Motor Insurance, Motor, Health, Marine, Health, Marketing, Bancassurance, Training

 

  • Headed Branch and Division in Kolkata. Also worked in the Marketing Department of Calcutta Regional Office.

 

  • Represented NIC at the Single Window Agency at WBIDC and offered assistance in selecting insurance products to companies /entrepreneurs setting up factories/projects in West Bengal.

 

  • Was engaged in underwriting and claims management in Division. Also handled Technical Departments such as Miscellaneous, Aviation, Liability, Personal Accident at Head Office.

 

 

Awards

  • Awarded the S.K. Desai Gold Medal Prize in 2001 by the Insurance Institute of Indiafor my paper entitled ‘Customer Service as a Source of Competitive Advantage-The Case of Indian Non-Life Personal Line of Insurance’
  • Awarded the second prize by the Geneva Association in 2000 for my paper titled: The Indian Insurance Market- Present Situation & Prospects for Private Initiatives
